Law enforcement officers exposed and detained the chief engineer of one of the municipal enterprises of the Odessa City Council, who, for permission to install temporary trade structures on the coast, demanded $ 2,700 from entrepreneurs. About it reports police of the Odessa region.
According to official information, the official was addressed by a local entrepreneur with the intention to issue permission to install the MAFs. In response, the official unambiguously hinted that there would be no positive solution without "reward". He estimated the amount at $ 2,700.
The woman decided not to undergo pressure and turned to the police. Law enforcement officers promptly documented the fact of extortion and detained the man immediately after receiving the entire amount of undue benefit. Cash has been withdrawn as physical evidence.
Investigators informed the person being suspected under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obtaining an undue benefit by an official, combined with extortion. Up to 10 years of imprisonment, with confiscation of property and prohibition of occupying positions are provided for such a crime.
The court chose the detainee a preventive measure - detention with the right to make a bail in the amount of UAH 242 240.
Investigative actions continue under the procedural guidance of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office. It is currently determined whether the suspect has acted on its own, or within a broader corruption scheme for the distribution of retail outlets on the Odessa coast.
