The Kyiv Customs officers have recently stopped an attempt to unlawful export of the scarecrow of two rare birds - the reed moon and the owl of the ears, which aimed to get to the UK and the United States. These birds are part of Ukraine's natural heritage and are protected by international environmental conventions. Customs officers hindered illegal exportation, retaining them as museum exhibits.
It is noted that they were found in international postal departments during customs control. They were traveling to the United Kingdom and the United States, and the sediment of all parcels was one and the same resident of Chernihiv region.
Experts of the National Scientific and Natural Museum, where customs officers directed the findings for examination, determined that it was the stuffed birds-the reeds of the reeds (Circus aeruginosus) and the owls of the ear (Asio Otus). These samples have museum and educational value and are recommended for introduction to the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
Both species of birds are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Wild Funs and Flora (CITES), as well as protected by the Berne Convention on the Protection of Wild Flora and Fauna and Natural Honor in Europe.
The reeds are nesting throughout Ukraine, except for mountainous areas. Owl Vuhata is a sedentary and nomadic bird of Ukraine. Both of these species may be endangered unless trade in such samples is strictly regulated.
The CITES Convention, in particular, stipulates that for the export of any in the lists to the Convention of an animal or plant, living or dead, and any easily recognizable part or derivative of it, it is necessary to obtain permits issued by the administrative bodies of Ukraine on the implementation of the requirements of the Convention. At the time of customs control, such documents were not provided to the customs, there were no international postal departments.
