This week, Ukrainians will feel the effects of magnetic storms, which can worsen well-being, especially for weather-dependent people.
According to forecasts, the most noticeable changes are expected on Sunday, June 9, and Thursday, June 13. On these days, the geomagnetic activity index Kp will reach levels 4–6, which is considered a medium or moderate storm.
Forecast for June 9–13:
-
June 9 — Kp-4-5 (medium storm)
-
June 10 — Kp-3 (weak activity)
-
June 11 — Kp-4 (moderate storm)
-
June 12 — Kp-3 (decrease in activity)
-
June 13 — Kp-5-6 (possible reinforcement)
What is a magnetic storm and why is it dangerous?
A magnetic storm is caused by solar flares and coronal mass ejections. Charged particles entering the Earth's atmosphere cause changes in the magnetic field. According to the NOAA scale, a Kp level of more than 5 is considered potentially harmful to health.
Who is at risk?
Particularly vulnerable to geomagnetic storms:
-
people with hypertension and cardiovascular diseases,
-
pregnant,
-
older people,
-
those who are under stress.
Possible symptoms:
-
headache, heaviness in the head;
-
insomnia or daytime sleepiness;
-
dizziness, pressure drops;
-
irritability, emotional instability;
-
decreased concentration of attention.
What will help you feel better?
-
Sleep mode. Full rest - at least 7–9 hours a day.
-
Nutrition. More water, herbal teas, vegetables, fish, and foods with magnesium. Limit fatty, spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine.
-
Physical activity: Moderate exercise, walking, breathing exercises.
-
Calm. Avoid quarrels, excessive emotions. Baths with sea salt, meditation, and pleasant rituals help.
-
Health monitoring. In case of chronic diseases, monitor your well-being and have the necessary medications on hand.
Magnetic storms cannot be avoided, but following simple rules will help you endure periods of solar activity more easily.
