On the night of July 21, a tragic event took place in a hotel in Ternopil: a 25-year-old border guard died as a result of shooting. The incident happened at approximately 03:00, when a major of one of the military units opened fire from a weapon attached to him - a pistol - at a soldier of the border service.
According to the information provided by the spokeswoman of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western Region, Yulia Shevchenko, it has been previously established that the conflict between the soldiers arose out of personal jealousy. The border guard died on the spot from bullet wounds.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. The officer was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying him of suspicion of premeditated murder and selecting a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.
Journalists from a local newspaper visited the hotel and restaurant complex where the murder took place to get a comment. However, the reception staff reported that the institution's management is not ready to comment on the incident and is currently not on site.
