Ukraine is facing a mass exodus of children who choose to study abroad and no longer return to the Ukrainian education system.
Volodymyr Strashko, head of a distance commercial school, reported a sharp increase in applications from parents who decided to leave the country with their children for an indefinite period. In the past, most applications were for high school boys whose families tried to remove them before they reached adulthood, but today the trend includes children of all ages.
According to Strashek, students who left one or two years ago initially kept the Ukrainian educational component and even studied in parallel. However, today, more and more families are completely refusing Ukrainian education because they have decided to stay abroad forever.
According to the data, high school students, in particular 11th graders, are now less likely to plan to enter Ukrainian universities. Among the graduates, there are many who will not write the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT), as they are not going to return to Ukraine to continue their studies.
"Not only boys, but also girls. 90% of such children are in some classes, Strashko noted. "Conditionally, 27 out of 30 students plan to stay abroad." According to him, this does not apply only to those who are aiming at prestigious universities abroad - families are ready to enter any institution, if only to not return their children to Ukraine.
Earlier, the Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, admitted that with the start of a full-scale war, Ukraine is facing the problem of a mass exodus of schoolchildren. Many of them leave the country to avoid mobilization restrictions, while others seek to secure a more stable future for their children. People's deputy Nina Yuzhanina said that about 300,000 children left the country before the start of the school year.
