After the night and morning attack of the Russian Federation forces on Ukraine, dozens of main network objects were damaged in the energy system, which is of a global scale, said Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chairman of the board of PrJSC "National Energy Company Ukrenergo".
Kudrytsky noted that this attack is the most extensive since the time of the large-scale invasion, which led to significant damage to the energy infrastructure. Despite this, the power system continues to operate, and a certain amount of electricity comes from Europe thanks to the connection to the European grid.
Although many regions have power restrictions, they are considered to be controlled to prevent overloading of grid elements that remain operational.
According to Kudrytskyi, the most difficult situation was recorded in Kharkiv, where significant efforts were made to destroy energy facilities supplying the city.
The speaker also noted that the energy system maintains its integrity, but some cities, in particular Kharkiv, have an extremely difficult situation with electricity supply, and now the priority is to restore the supply to them.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the situation in the energy sector after the massive Russian attack remains under control, and there is no need to turn off the electricity supply throughout the country.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that this strike was the largest in recent times. The strikes were recorded in various regions of the country, including Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Lviv Oblast, and Poltava Oblast.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on the verge of shutdown due to a massive strike on Zaporizhzhia, Energoatom said.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported that during the night and morning of March 22, Russian troops launched more than 60 Shahed drones and almost 90 missiles of various types, most of which were shot down by air defense forces.
