The Kyiv District Administrative Court rejected Viktor Medvedchuk's request to renew his license to practice law. Medvedchuk's position and motives were carefully considered, and the court's decision was made in favor of the testators.
Lawyer Ilya Kostin, leading the team that represented the interests, explained that the process of considering the complaint was quite complicated. "We were even forced to express doubts about the objectivity of one of the members of the disciplinary commission, Biryukova, who had certain connections with Medvedchuk's business," Kostin noted.
Medvedchuk's rights to practice law were revoked in May 2023. He appealed to the court, but as a result of the court decision, he defends the loss of these rights.
Medvedchuk claims that the members of the commission had biased views and were under the influence of pressure. He also drew attention to the close relationship of one of the lawyers, Roman Tytykal, with members of the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of the Kyiv region.
Medvedchuk's lawyer in court was Oleksiy Kalinnikov, who previously represented the interests of other famous people. He is also a teacher on the website of the Higher School of Advocacy of the National Bar Association.
The National Bar Association of Ukraine, headed by Lidia Izovitova, has the authority to issue certificates to lawyers. They can also disqualify lawyers from practice for breach of rules or non-payment of fees.
Lawyer Ilya Kostin expresses concern about the inaction of the National Bar Association in relation to lawyers involved in human rights violations.
