The Ivano-Frankivsk City Court found the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection service of a military unit guilty of abuse of power and official position. He was sentenced to three years in prison with a three-year ban on holding managerial positions, but the actual term was replaced with a two-year suspended sentence. The court's press service reports.
According to the investigation, the accused did not appear for duty from March 2022 to April 2025, but received a salary for a soldier under his care, who also did not serve during this time. The total amount of illegally accrued funds exceeded UAH 1.4 million. The soldier transferred the salary to the major's card.
During the trial, the official entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor and compensated the military unit for the damages caused. The court also took into account the positive characteristics of the accused and his participation in hostilities. In addition, the major must pay 42.7 thousand UAH for conducting examinations.
The court also sentenced the major's ward, who had not appeared on duty for three years, to two years of suspended sentence.
This case has become a vivid example of how military officials can use their positions for personal enrichment and how the court responds to such abuses.
