Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov declared over 176 million hryvnias, becoming the wealthiest government official in the current Cabinet of Ministers. His declaration also lists $490,000 in cash, five apartments, and a private collection of luxury watches, works of art, and rare books.
This became known from the submitted declaration for 2024, which Chernyshov made public in accordance with the requirements of the law.
The documents indicate that the minister owns five apartments, most of which are in prestigious areas of Kyiv. He also owns or has the right to use other real estate in the region.
In addition to 176 million hryvnias of declared assets, Chernyshov keeps more than 5 million hryvnias in bank accounts, as well as 490 thousand dollars in cash.
The section on valuable movable property lists a collection of premium watches, paintings, and rare books, some of which have cultural value. The exact number of exhibits in the collection is not disclosed.
Who is Alexey Chernyshov?
Oleksiy Chernyshov was appointed Minister of National Unity in the spring of 2024. Before that, he headed the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, and even before that, he was the Minister of Community and Territorial Development.
His name has repeatedly appeared on lists of the wealthiest top managers in the public sector, in particular while working at Naftogaz.
Chernyshov's declaration sparked discussions online, because against the backdrop of general savings in government spending and discussions on tax policy, the property status of individual officials has once again become the focus of public attention.
