The moratorium on raising tariffs is ongoing but the changes will begin since May

At least by the end of April, Ukrainians can exhale calmly - gas and electricity tariffs for household consumers remain at the current level. The moratorium on rising prices introduced in wartime continues to operate. However, new rules for some categories of electricity consumers will be in force since May 1.

According to the newspaper "Gazor", in April natural gas for the population will remain at the price of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter within the annual contract with Naftogaz of Ukraine. It is this state company that provides more than 98% of household consumers in the country. Other suppliers also do not change their annual offers - tariffs remain from 7.79 to 9.99 UAH per cubic meter.

At the same time, the situation with monthly (floating) tariffs is less stable: the cost of a cubic meter in this segment of the market ranges from 8.46 to 20.99 UAH, depending on the market situation and the company.

With regard to electricity, the tariff of UAH 4.32 per kWh is maintained by the end of April - in accordance with the Cabinet Resolution No. 632 of May 31, 2024. However, from May 1, the conditions for consumers who use electric heating are changing. The special reduced tariff of UAH 2.64 per kWh for the first 2000 kWh per month will be canceled. In the future, a single rate will be in place for this category - UAH 4.32 for all consumption.

Thus, although April promises to be "stable", the rules of the game can change significantly since May. Although the government does not yet speak of a radical increase in tariffs, the gradual collapse of benefits and return to market conditions seems inevitable. Especially in the face of increasing energy costs and the need to attract investment in infrastructure restoration.
