Morning sickness in schoolchildren: when to sound the alarm

A child's morning well-being can be an important indicator of their physical and psychological state. Parents often notice that their children are nauseous in the morning, before going to school. Such a symptom is not always a coincidence - sometimes it signals more serious problems, and sometimes it is associated with routine and stress.

Main causes of morning sickness

Stress and School Anxiety
School is a source of intense emotional stress for many children. Tests, conflicts with classmates, or strict teachers can cause the body to have a physical reaction: nausea, stomach pain, dizziness.

Sleep deprivation and fatigue
Late bedtimes and lack of sleep deplete the body. Children who don't get enough rest often experience weakness, headaches, and nausea in the morning.

Digestive problems
Gastritis, eating disorders, overeating at night, or other gastrointestinal diseases can cause morning sickness. If symptoms are accompanied by pain or lack of appetite, you should consult a gastroenterologist.

Eating an empty
stomach or eating too much food in the morning can cause discomfort. A light, balanced breakfast helps stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent nausea.

Vestibular Sensitivity
Some children are prone to vestibular dysfunction, which manifests as nausea and dizziness in the morning when the body transitions from sleep to activity.

Somatic manifestations of hidden diseases
Regular morning sickness can signal serious problems: increased intracranial pressure, hormonal disruptions, infections. In such cases, a pediatrician's consultation and additional examinations are definitely required.

Tips for parents

  • Monitor the frequency and intensity of complaints.

  • Keep a food and sleep diary.

  • Talk to your child about their emotions and experiences at school.

  • Do not postpone a visit to the doctor if nausea recurs frequently or is accompanied by other symptoms.

Morning sickness can be a temporary reaction to stress or fatigue, or it can indicate hidden health problems. The task of parents is to pay attention to their child's signals and provide support both physically and emotionally.
