The Verkhovna Rada plans to register a bill on the creation of a Special Economic Prosecutor's Office, which will take over the procedural management of cases investigated by the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB). This was announced by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax Policy.
It is noted that the Special Economic Prosecutor's Office (SEP) can become an analogue of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). The initiators propose to reboot the Bureau of Economic Security and make it an analogue of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), but for the investigation of economic crimes.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that the restart of the BEB can increase the efficiency of this body, but at the same time he expressed indignation at the insufficient role of the prosecutor's office in protecting business. His opinion is that the irresponsibility and incompetence of the prosecutors who manage the criminal proceedings of the BEB leads to violations in the work of the body.
The draft law on this matter will be entitled "On Amendments to the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine, the Criminal Code of Ukraine and other laws of Ukraine regarding the implementation of the activities of the Specialized Economic Prosecutor's Office."
