This summer, there may be a shortage of electricity in Ukraine due to a loss of capacity. This was announced by the CEO of Yasno, Serhii Kovalenko, during the broadcast of the telethon "Edyny Novyny". According to him, DTEK lost half of its generating capacity as a result of the missile attack that occurred on March 22.
"Various types of generating capacity were damaged, many thermal power plants were damaged, and a hydroelectric plant was also damaged. In addition, the enemy several times attacked Ukrenergo network nodes, transformer substations, etc. These attacks affected not only the system's ability to transmit electricity, but also reduced our overall generation capacity," Kovalenko explained. He added that it will take many months to restore the damaged facilities.
In particular, it will be difficult to quickly restore the badly damaged Dnipro HPP in Zaporizhzhia, which was hit by a missile. It may take 18 to 24 months to restore some of its units.
It should be noted that the mass missile attack by the Russian occupiers on the Ukrainian energy facilities in the morning of March 22 became the largest for the entire heating season 2023/24.
