The IMF requires Ukraine to change the Customs Code to fight corruption

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a demand to Ukraine regarding the need to amend the country's Customs Code in order to strengthen the fight against corruption.

According to Bloomberg, this is required in a new memorandum that the IMF has updated for the continuation of international financial support to Ukraine.

In particular, Kyiv must bring customs operations into compliance with EU legislation and ensure transparency in the hiring of management and staff.

Also, by the end of September, Ukraine is obliged to conduct an external audit of NABU for the first time. Auditors will be selected by international partners.

"The external audit of NABU should be completed promptly, and its results used to increase the bureau's accountability and operational efficiency," the IMF said.

Among other conditions that Kyiv must fulfill are the optimization of tax benefits in connection with the need to increase budget revenues, mobilization of internal revenues, liberalization of currency control, preservation of reserves at the level of at least $28.8 billion, which will reduce the regulator's ability to conduct currency interventions for support of the hryvnia.
