The aggravation of tension in relations between Ukraine and Poland is gaining momentum. The reason for the latest diplomatic discussions were the statements of Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Hawkowski, who claims that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is allegedly trying to drag Poland into a war with Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine categorically rejected these accusations, stressing the importance of defense not only for Ukraine, but also for the security of Poland itself and Europe.
Krzysztof Hawkowski, Poland's deputy prime minister, said that proposals to shoot down Russian missiles and drones over Ukrainian territory headed toward Poland could be an attempt to draw Poland into the conflict. He emphasized that such actions would be regarded as a direct military step, and that Poland risks being in direct confrontation with Russia. Gavkovsky emphasized that President Zelensky is allegedly deliberately trying to "draw" Poland into a war with Russia.
The Deputy Prime Minister also indicated that Poland expects Ukraine to be more grateful for the help and cooperation that Poland has been providing since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia. This statement became resonant, causing a quick reaction from Kyiv.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine promptly made a statement, stressing that Havkovskyi's words are groundless and do not correspond to reality. The agency emphasized that shooting down Russian missiles and drones moving towards Poland is not only a matter of protecting Ukraine, but also part of ensuring the security of Poland itself and its citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that Russia repeatedly violated Polish airspace and carried out cyber attacks, as well as provocations against NATO countries. Thus, Ukraine acts as a "barrier" for Russian aggression, preventing the possible spread of the conflict to other European countries.
"Talking about Ukraine's alleged desire to involve Poland or other countries in the war is unacceptable," the statement reads. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is convinced that Ukraine protects not only its territory, but also the common European security space, of which Poland is a part.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Poland has become one of the most important allies of Ukraine. It not only accepted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, but also actively supports Ukraine politically, economically and militarily. This became a key factor in the formation of Ukrainian-Polish relations and emphasized the importance of solidarity between the countries.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that Ukraine seeks to strengthen solidarity with Poland and expects the same support from the Polish side. "We count on the continuation of active cooperation to bring victory over the common enemy and restore a just peace," the Ukrainian ministry emphasized.
Ukraine believes that joint efforts to counter Russian aggression are the only way to achieve peace and security in the region. The defense forces of Ukraine have already stopped the Russian offensive and do not allow the conflict zone to expand to other states. In this context, Ukraine calls on Poland to maintain unity, which is a key factor in the fight against the Russian threat.
