The Kyiv police exposed the criminal activity of an enterprise that was engaged in the disposal of hazardous waste in the Kyiv region without licenses and appropriate equipment. According to the press service of the police, the suspects were the 44-year-old director of the company and five of his subordinates, who concluded contracts with state and private companies for the disposal of toxic substances.
Instead of safe disposal, as required by environmental standards, hazardous materials, including mercury lamps, expired drugs and other toxic waste, were simply buried in leased lands of the region. According to experts, the areas are contaminated with dangerous substances, including copper, chromium, zinc and phosphorus. The total damage to state interests is estimated at over 9 million hryvnias.
