Law enforcement officers exposed a resident of Lviv region, which organized a channel of illegal export of wood from hazel to the European Union. The woman is registered as an individual entrepreneur and used counterfeit documents to obtain certificates of origin of timber and lumber.
According to the press service of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv region, the suspect illegally moved over 17 cubic meters of forest products illegally. Criminal activity was accompanied by the legalization of income received illegally.
“On the basis of fictitious documents, she received certificates and moved forest products outside Ukraine. Some of the profits were withdrawn through controlled accounts for legalization, ”Bab detectives reported.
Currently, entrepreneurs have been informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - smuggling (Article 201) and legalization of property obtained by crime (Article 209).
For smuggling of timber, a woman faces up to 5 years in prison. For laundering income from illegally, up to 6 years in prison, as well as confiscation of property and prohibition of engaging in certain activities.
The investigation is ongoing. Operational support is performed by the SBU in the Lviv region with the participation of employees of Lviv customs. The procedural leadership is provided by the regional prosecutor's office.
