In the morning of May 3, a tragedy occurred in one of the settlements of the Yaskiv community in Odesa region-a 43-year-old woman appealed to law enforcement officers with a report of the sudden death of her nine-month-old daughter. At first glance, an accident. But during the initial investigative actions, the police found circumstances that may indicate a serious crime.
Law enforcement officers recorded signs of bodily harm in the child, and the behavior of the mother herself caused suspicion. According to preliminary experts, the death of the child came as a result of asphyxia - strangulation. The police suggest that a woman in a state of emotional breakdown could use force to a baby who had been crying for a long time.
The woman was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Currently, the announcement of suspicion under paragraph 2 of Part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is a premeditated murder of a young child. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings, a complex of forensic examinations is appointed, which should finally determine the cause of death of the child and confirm or refute the mother's involvement in causing fatal injuries.
The tragedy exposed another problem: the psycho -emotional state of women in the postpartum period, which is often ignored. In many cases, lack of psychological assistance and support can have catastrophic consequences.
The police continue the investigation.
