The Donalda Trump Administration is considering to hand over a new weapons party to Ukraine - for the first time from the moment of Trump's return to the White House. These are hundreds of millions of dollars that can be directed from an existing defense fund.
According to the sources of Politico, the President's team studies the option of using the presidential permission to reduce weapons (PDA) is a mechanism that allows the Pentagon to quickly remove weapons from their warehouses without additional Congress procedures. This fund has approximately $ 3.8 billion.
According to the sources, the decision has not yet been approved, but the new package may be the first since January this year, when the United States has been officially officially transferred to Kiev weapons. The amount of possible assistance, according to preliminary estimates, will be about $ 300 million.
In parallel, according to Congress, there are negotiations with European allies on the possibility of purchasing US weapons for Ukraine through NATO countries. Such a mechanism would reduce political tension around direct supplies from the United States and at the same time keep Kiev access to high -tech weapons.
Meanwhile, the Senate has already adopted a law on national defense, which provides for another $ 500 million to support Ukraine within the limits of security assistance initiative, as well as its extension by 2028.
The decision on new assistance is made against the background of strengthening Russian attacks in the territory of Ukraine - using drones and missiles. The publication emphasizes that despite the absence of a breakthrough on the diplomatic front, the White House prepares a "important statement" on Russian aggression, which can be announced in the coming days.
The new package of assistance, if approved, will be the first signal that the Trump administration does not plan to curtail Kiev's military support, despite the previous rhetoric that caused fears in Ukraine and allies.
