In Zhytomyr Oblast, the joint efforts of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained two people who are suspected of committing a terrorist act near the territorial procurement center (TCC). Thanks to the prompt work of the law enforcement officers, it was possible to avoid victims.
Who is involved in the crime?
According to the investigation, the following people were involved in the terrorist attack:
- 41-year-old native of Donetsk region , who has a criminal past;
- A 23-year-old resident of Berdycheva , who, according to preliminary data, cooperated with the main suspect.
Both operated under the leadership of Russian curators. They planted an improvised explosive device under the administrative building of the TCC.
Fortunately, the explosion did not result in casualties or injuries. However, the very fact of organizing such a crime is indicative in the context of the hybrid war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. The terrorist act was aimed at creating panic among the local population and undermining confidence in the Ukrainian security forces.
The actions of the suspects are classified as a terrorist act . According to Ukrainian legislation, they face up to 12 years in prison .
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are checking the alleged involvement of other persons in the organization of this crime.
The Security Service of Ukraine emphasizes that this case is another example of how Russian special services use Ukrainian citizens to destabilize the situation in the regions. At the same time, the National Police urges citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious actions or objects.
