Russia continues to fire missiles at the territory of Ukraine, causing significant damage to the country. Russian ballistic missiles are especially dangerous, against which only a single anti-missile defense system can fight.
According to the statement of the spokesman of the command of the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuri Ignat, currently only the "Patriot" air defense systems can shoot down ballistic missiles. Although there is some hope that this function will be able to be performed by SAMP/T systems when Ukraine receives them in sufficient quantity.
In addition, radio-electronic warfare (EW) devices, which allow missiles to be deflected from a given route, can affect the operation of all types of missiles. However, this may lead to the rockets falling in other places, including on civilian objects.
Ukraine is assisted by national and international partners in providing anti-missile defense. However, the supply of air defense systems has slowed down for a number of reasons, including the lack of such facilities in the world and the priority of each state to maintain its own security.
Currently, Ukraine uses a variety of air defense systems, including both outdated air defense systems from the 1970s and modern ones. However, for the effective defense of the country, much more anti-missile defense systems are needed, namely several dozen "Patriot" batteries.
It should be noted that the lack of adequate protection can become a serious threat to Ukraine in the conditions of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
