Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of artillery shells and anti-aircraft missiles to protect its cities from Russian attacks, and the situation at the front is becoming more and more deplorable.
Publicly, Ukrainian officials say that they will continue to fight the Russians, even if their allies do not support them.
However, according to Western officials who are familiar with the progress of the discussions and requested anonymity, the situation at the front is getting worse and worse, with the Armed Forces barely holding back the Russian troops.
According to one European diplomat, recent waves of Russian missile strikes have claimed dozens of lives in Kyiv and other cities because Ukraine's air defense systems, which rely heavily on expensive interceptors provided by allies, have not been able to destroy as many weapons as in the past.
The hostilities have turned into trench warfare with the use of drones, leaving little chance for each side to "catch the other side of the front by surprise."
But in order to maintain "active defense," as this approach is called, Ukraine needs constant supplies of artillery shells and other ammunition, which the allies barely provide.
