A new land scandal is unfolding in Kyiv: part of the territory of the hippodrome at 1 Vasyl Kasiyan Street is being prepared for development, despite the official designation of the site as a sports facility. According to the head of the Public Council under the Kyiv City State Administration, Hennadiy Kryvosheya, activists have noticed the beginning of preparatory work on the site, which may indicate illegal construction.
As it turned out, on November 21, 2024, the Kyiv City Council adopted a decision to withdraw a 44-hectare plot of land from the use of the hippodrome. Later, it was leased for two years to two structures - Senekvitrek LLC and the Avangard children's sports and equestrian club. Formally, for the construction and maintenance of administrative buildings.
Activists suspect that behind the cover of the sports club is the real goal - the construction of a business center. According to their information, earlier the issue of transferring this land for 10 years was considered, which may indicate the developers' intentions to obtain the plot on a permanent basis.
Gennady Kryvosheya said that this is another scheme to "cut off" part of the hippodrome land in favor of commercial structures. According to him, the tenants are ignoring the instructions of the landscaping inspectors, are not providing permits, and are continuing the preparatory work.
Local residents and civic activists are demanding a review of the legality of the Kyiv City Council's decision and the tenants' activities. In their opinion, the capital risks losing yet another public space that could be developed as a sports infrastructure, rather than turning into another office complex.
