The fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not leave the city of Vugledar in the Donetsk region much earlier, in order to avoid the loss of other territories. This was stated by the new commander of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after "Black Zaporozhets", Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko in an interview for "Glavkom".
"If we leave the settlements without giving a powerful fight to the enemy, then in some time we may find ourselves on unknown borders," the officer emphasized.
After being appointed to the position of Brigadier General Okhrimenko, he developed a plan for the gradual withdrawal of units from the southern part of Vugledar, which was approved by the top management. However, according to him, not everything went according to plan, as the Russian troops managed to take control of the flanks. "The first stage of the exit from the city was completed, but the enemy increased its efforts and took under fire control the routes we had planned," he explained.
Okhrimenko noted that the Ukrainian military managed to stop the enemy by stabilizing the front line. "This morning (October 7), the enemy launched an assault from the east, we stopped it. "Several combat vehicles were destroyed, the enemy suffered losses in personnel and for the time being has given up on further offensive actions," added Brigadier General.
At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to work on preventing the enemy from advancing towards Bogoyavlenka, demonstrating resilience and readiness to repulse attacks.
