The new law envisages criminal liability for violation of sanctions

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine prepares a new bill, which provides for criminal liability for violation and bypassing sanctions. This is one of the conditions for Ukraine's accession to the European Union, as well as an important tool for combating offenders and filling the state budget.

According to the Ministry, the proposed changes will supplement the Criminal Code of Ukraine with a new article. They provide criminal liability for two types of violations:

  • Violation of sanctions , which can be committed both intentionally and from negligence;
  • Bypassing sanctions , which is manifested only in deliberate violation.

The bill determines the threshold amount, after which criminal liability will occur - 100 non -taxable minimum incomes of citizens, which in 2025 is 151 400 UAH.

The violators are threatened with serious punishments:

  • Penalties from 25 000 to 120 000 NMDG (non -taxable minimum incomes);
  • Imprisonment for a period of 2 to 10 years;
  • Prohibition to occupy certain positions up to 15 years;
  • Confiscation of property and liquidation of legal entities with confiscation of property.

Such a bill is part of a broader strategy that developed countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, to combat offenses in the economic and financial spheres. According to the Ministry of Justice, such laws have long shown their effectiveness in other countries, and now it is time to act in Ukraine.

The bill is currently under development, but its adoption can be an important step towards strengthening sanction policy in Ukraine.
