The Ukrainian diplomatic community is actively discussing the possibility of appointing a new ambassador of Ukraine to the United States. According to Viktor Shlinchak, chairman of the board of the Institute of World Politics, one of the main candidates for this key position is Andrii Melnyk, the former ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, known for his directness and tough statements.
According to him, Melnyk, who currently heads the Embassy of Ukraine in Brazil, has been friends with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga for many years.
Shlinchak writes that the two other candidates to replace Markarova are:
– Tymofiy Mylovanov – Yermak's freelance adviser and former Minister of Economy;
- Ihor Zhovkva - Yermak's deputy.
They want to appoint a new ambassador before Trump's inauguration.
Earlier, FT and WP wrote about plans to replace Markarova. Republicans demanded her release even before Trump's victory.
