Russian terrorists are aiming to capture Chasovoy Yar in the Donetsk region. The city is located not far from the ruined Bakhmut and is of great strategic importance for the attack. Terrorist groups numbering more than 20,000 people, led by Russian forces, launched an offensive on Chasovy Yar after gaining control over Avdiivka.
Although the Russians have the advantage in numbers and weapons, Ukraine can defend the city because it is located on the heights. Chasovy Yar, the highest point in this area, is divided by the "Siverskyi Donets - Donbas" channel, which creates additional obstacles for an attack.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have turned Chasovy Yar into a stronghold since 2014, placing a military hospital and the headquarters of the Joint Forces Operation there. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the city became a center of regrouping and a fire support base.
The capture of Chasovoy Yar would open the way for a wider Russian offensive in the Donetsk region, which is currently 50% under its control. It is noted that Russia has already reached the outskirts of the city, and Ukrainian officials warn that Moscow plans to capture Chasovy Yar before the Russian military holiday on May 9.
