Oksen Lisovyi spoke about the reasons why it is not possible to raise the salary of educators

During question time to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, announced the need for 270 billion UAH to increase the salaries of Ukrainian educators. According to him, the issue of raising salaries for educators, provided for in Article 61 of the final provisions of the law on education, includes all employees of the educational sphere — from preschool to higher education.

Lisovyi emphasized that a fair increase in salaries is important for all categories of educators, because "preschool education, general secondary education, vocational education, vocational pre-university and higher education should be fairly and evenly increased." However, he noted that in order to implement this initiative, Ukraine needs to find sources of funding, as the current budget situation does not allow this.

The ministry is currently developing several scenarios for teacher salary increases, including both phased and simultaneous increases. "We understand that in order to start this process, we need to receive at least UAH 80 billion for the initial stage," the minister added.

Budget for 2025

In the draft budget for 2025, almost UAH 170 billion was allocated to education , which is almost UAH 2 billion less than in 2024. This raises concerns among educators who hope for better education funding and decent working conditions.
