Ex-people's deputy and journalist Oles Donii said that it would be beneficial for the current government to hold elections to the Verkhovna Rada in October last year, and presidential elections in March this year, as required by the Constitution.
"Then they would have a great chance to win. With each subsequent month, these chances will decrease, and accordingly, the desire to hold such elections also decreases," he said.
The former deputy of national affairs explained that the tragedy of this situation lies in Ukraine's loss of democracy. After all, according to the Constitution, Zelenskyi's term of office ends on May 20.
"Democracy is not the victory of your favorite, but its procedure. And now the tragedy of Ukraine is that it is losing democratic procedures and democratic institutions. That is, we are becoming an authoritarian nation with an authoritarian worldview. We do not even raise the issue of the need to bring back democracy as a nation. In the fight with Russia, unfortunately, we are picking up the worst traits from them - this is the danger of this long-term war, that we are getting more and more of the same traits - this is very bad," he said.
The journalist emphasized that in this situation the issue of holding elections is postponed for several decades. In this regard, he considers ex-president Petro Poroshenko's statement about his intention to run for office in the upcoming elections as drawing attention to the issue of the necessity of holding elections.
