Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Odessa region have exposed and reported suspicions to a deputy of the Dobryansk rural community and two of his accomplices, who were engaged in illegal timber exports to the European Union for a year. This is reported by BEB.
According to the investigation, an organized group systematically smuggled timber using forged documents. The suspects produced false certificates of origin of the timber and issued official certificates based on them. They submitted documents with false data for customs control, and to avoid inspections, they regularly changed checkpoints.
The scheme operated for at least a year, during which time almost 115 cubic meters of wood were illegally exported abroad. Another batch of smuggled goods was detained at the Starokozache checkpoint in the Odessa region - it was there that BEB detectives exposed the attackers during the shipment clearance.
All three participants in the scheme were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - movement of timber across the border outside customs control or with concealment from control. The sanction of the article provides for serious criminal liability, since it concerns the illegal export of goods, the export of which is prohibited.
