Social networks are actively discussing the unexpectedly high demand for document preparation services for Ukrainians abroad. Videos and testimonies of massive queues in front of consular posts have emerged since the release of the mobilization bill, which proposes significant changes to military registration and the award of new recruits.
According to the current draft law, Ukrainians aged 18 to 60 who are abroad can receive consular services only if they have military registration documents. This applies even to the issuance of such important documents as domestic and international passports.
The amendments also provide for the introduction of additional sanctions for those who evade mobilization, such as inclusion in the Unified register of debtors and restrictions on obtaining a driver's license. These proposals caused panic among Ukrainians abroad, who quickly began to sign up for documents.
Despite the fact that the draft law has not yet been adopted, video recordings of numerous people queuing in front of consular institutions indicate that the situation is worsening. Since the beginning of the Russian aggression, many Ukrainians have left the country, and the consulates do not have time to cope with a large number of citizens.
The new passport services in key European cities, provided by the state enterprise "Dokument", are also unable to meet the growing demand. Currently, there is an unusually large number of people trying to sign up for documents, which leads to abnormally long queues.
The armed forces assure that they do not intend to interfere in civilian life, but the high-profile draft law has already caused serious discussions and unrest among Ukrainians abroad. Now the authorities intend to review and finalize the draft law, but panic and queues for documents have already become a reality for many Ukrainians abroad.
