In today's world, where smartphones and instant messengers have become an integral part of everyday life, pagers may seem archaic. However, journalist Maksym Voytenko discovered that this device still has its place in Ukraine, particularly in medical institutions and some other areas.
I was interested in the current history of the issue with pagers, where they are still used. In Ukraine, I last saw them at the beginning of the zeros.
And at the same beginning of the zeros, I proudly walked with a trunk - it is a walkie-talkie communication for commercial subscribers. With the help of a walkie-talkie in the editorial office, they calmly listened to the police and the ambulance, I begged her to go on trips to important events with the words: "We need to deliver the news urgently." Although I already had a mobile phone at that time, it resembled a walkie-talkie in size and antenna. But the trunk was even bigger, this was a good punt in those years, and it also caused the SBU and police officers to grind their teeth. And here are the pagers...
I googled it and found out that pagers are still used in the industries where they started in the sixties, when there was no mobile phone for everyone.
In Ukraine, special pagers for employees of medical institutions are sold, they cost about 13 thousand hryvnias on the website. With their help, messages are sent to employees throughout the hospital complex. Something from the series "Go to the 13th ward and save the patient."
The transmitter is most likely in the clinic itself.
The advantage of pagers for doctors is that, unlike mobile pagers, thanks to technology, they do not interfere with expensive medical equipment and do not prevent it from working.
And back in the early 2000s in the USA, they sold such a thing as tweezers - a keyboard and a transmitter were attached to the pager - so you could answer messages.
