People's Deputy of the 8th convocation Tetyana Chornovol announced that she does not plan to return to parliament and will continue serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She announced her decision on Facebook, emphasizing that she chose military service over a political career.
The day before, the Central Election Commission extended Chornovol's deadline for submitting documents for registration as a people's deputy by one year. She explained that she herself had asked the CEC for an extension in order to be able to remain on the front lines.
"I have made a decision to continue serving on the front line. Petro Poroshenko has already congratulated me on the decision I made, which he deeply respects. I have not yet received congratulations from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief... Well, after all, I am only a platoon commander," Chornovol wrote.
She also thanked the CEC for its "statesmanlike position" and condemned those who evade service under the guise of political slogans. According to Chornovol, she seeks to show by her example that she is not electing the parliament, but the army.
We would like to remind you that the Central Election Commission recognized Tetyana Chornovol as an elected People's Deputy of Ukraine. She is to take the place of Andriy Parubiy, who died in Lviv on August 30.
