Increase in excise duties on fuel: a threat to small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine

Plans of the government of Ukraine to increase excise rates on diesel fuel and gasoline cause serious indignation among representatives of small and medium-sized businesses. The head of the Association of Small and Medium Business Owners, Ruslan Sobol, made his statements, warning about the possible consequences of such a decision.

In addition, according to the expert, such an increase will affect prices, so as a result, all Ukrainians will have to pay more.

"The consequences of the excise tax increase are very simple. A business cannot subsidize the production of products or services. Therefore, in the end, as always, you and I will pay for these increases - as end consumers, as citizens. We have to realize that everything that is happening is not somewhere for business or for the military. You and I will just pay a little more. We will live a little worse. We will tighten the belts a little more," explained Sobol.

According to him, this increase will certainly hit business as well, because now it is quite difficult to work even without an increase in taxes.

"Some will hold out, and some will leave the market and be forced to disband their collectives. This will increase the burden on the labor market and increase unemployment. These are the possible consequences," he summarized.
