European officials have expressed concern because of Donald Trump's position on Ukraine after meeting with President Vladimir Zelensky in the White House. According to Bloomberg, on the basis of anonymous sources, some European officials noted that after these negotiations, "Europe will collectively try to collect wreckage". They are concerned that Trump probably changes his position on Ukraine, increasing the pressure on Kiev and avoiding direct communication with Zelensky.
The official who expressed his thoughts for Bloomberg under the conditions of anonymity said that "Trump decided to sell Ukraine", pointing to his possible refusal to support Kiev in conflict with Russia. Other Europeans also noted that the altercation between Trump and Zelensky in the White House looked like an ambush.
Some Trump advisers instead believe that the American people are still ready to support the war in Ukraine, but others claim that the United States will most likely increase the pressure on Kiev in the future. Probably, the Trump administration will avoid direct contacts with Zelensky and focus on other paths of pressure on Ukraine to achieve peaceful settlement.
After the incident in the oval office, where Trump stated that Zelensky was not ready for peace, the Ukrainian leader left the White House ahead of schedule. Trump also wrote on the social network Truth Social that Zelensky could return when he is ready for peace, which has left a certain feeling of tension in the relationship between the two leaders.
Meanwhile, journalists say that the Rare Earth Minerals Agreement between the US and Ukraine was not signed after the meeting. This further increases the tension in bilateral relations. At the same time, President Zelensky thanked the United States for his support and stated that Ukraine continues to work to achieve a fair and prolonged peace.
