Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reacted to numerous "peace plans" to end the war, which are currently being actively discussed in the media. According to him, such initiatives should be viewed with irony or sarcasm, because, although they are called "peace agreements" or "peace plans", in reality they only reflect the interests of Russia and are consistent with its goals.
Podolyak emphasized that any plans that propose to freeze the conflict and transfer part of Ukrainian territories to Russia are not a path to peace, but a tool for achieving Russian conditions for ending the war. Podoliak considers this approach unacceptable, as it ignores the legal fact of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which has been continuing the occupation of the territory of Ukraine for almost three years, committing war crimes.
Podoliak reminded that there are two fundamentally different positions regarding peace negotiations. The first is the Ukrainian "Peace Formula", based on international law and providing for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, as well as security guarantees. This initiative is the only true peace plan, as it complies with the norms of international law and is based on the legal fixation of Russia's aggression.
The other is the Russian version, which, in various interpretations, proposes the surrender of Ukraine, the freezing of the war and the transfer of control over the occupied territories of Russia. Podoliak noted that some states, such as Brazil and China, offered a compromise that essentially amounted to the implementation of Russian demands.
Podolyak also focused on the influence of US policy, especially considering the future administration of Donald Trump, which, according to Podolyak, has not yet formed a final position on Ukraine. It is expected that after the end of the briefings, where the American intelligence agencies will provide full information about the situation in the Russian Federation and its motives in the war, the position of the United States may change significantly.
Podolyak emphasized that after the final communications between President Zelenskyi and the Trump administration, one can expect the official position of the United States regarding the war in Ukraine. Then the real prospects of peace negotiations will become clear.
