Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has expressed support for the initiative of the country's President Karol Nawrocki to equate the "Bandera symbol" with Nazi and communist symbols. According to him, the display of such symbols should be considered a crime and punished with the strictest methods, including deportation.
On RMF FM, Morawiecki stressed that Navroczky's initiative will help Poles and neighbors from the southeastern regions understand the historical context of the Volyn tragedy. The former prime minister called the demonstration of Bandera symbols "worthy of the strictest condemnation" and compared it to manifestations of Nazism and communism.
"It is absolutely necessary to ensure that anyone who uses Bandera symbols is subject to immediate deportation. If someone does not understand what the Volyn tragedy was, immediate deportation," Morawiecki emphasized.
Thus, Poland is taking another step in forming a tough policy on historical memory and warnings against ideologies that are considered dangerous in the country.
