Ukrainian intelligence warns about possible new air strikes in Kiev in the coming days. About it reports the American edition of Politico , referring to sources in Ukrainian special services.
The concern is increasing against the background of the active diplomatic efforts of the West aimed at the cessation of hostilities and the preparation of a peaceful summit in Switzerland. However, according to representatives of Ukrainian intelligence, the Kremlin can resort to another escalation to show its strength and ignore calls for peace.
"On Saturday, intelligence representatives in Kiev expressed anxiety that Russia can carry out new air strikes in the Ukrainian capital in the coming days, which will become a gloomy response to the peaceful efforts of the West," - said in Politico .
In the last few weeks, Russia has significantly intensified air attacks on infrastructure in Central and Western Ukraine. Kiev remained conditionally "quiet", but it was in the capital that there are key political, diplomatic and strategic centers, which makes it a priority target for demonstrative strikes.
Analysts suggest that a new wave of attacks can be timed to symbolic dates or international events, in particular to the Peace Summit in Switzerland, which is planned in June.
The Ukrainian air defense forces are already in a state of increased readiness. Despite the shortage of modern interception, Kyiv continues to counteract most rocket and drone attacks.
However, the risks remain high. Any weakening of protection, or a massive attack with a large number of "daggers" or "shahas" can lead to casualties and destruction.
According to Politico , a potential blow to Kiev is not only a military action but also a political message. Thus, the Kremlin can try to disrupt international initiatives on peaceful settlement or influence public opinion in both Ukraine and the West.
Ukraine once again encourages partners to strengthen the supply of air defense facilities and click on Moscow diplomatic to reduce the risks to the civilian population.
