Polish farmers threaten to renew the blockade of the "Medyka-Szegyny" point if they do not receive written confirmation of the fulfillment of their demands. The leader of the protest, Roman Kondrov, said that without written assurances about the fulfillment of the demands, the farmers will return to the blockade.
The farmers' protest began on November 23 and was suspended on December 24. Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Siekierski promised to fulfill the farmers' demands. However, the protest leader emphasized that he has not yet received written confirmations regarding the fulfillment of these demands.
The main demands of farmers include:
- Inclusion of corn subsidies.
- Increasing the amount of liquid loans for farmers.
- Keeping the agricultural tax at the level of last year.
Roman Kondrov demands to receive these assurances in writing. If this does not happen after the negotiations scheduled for Wednesday, the farmers will again block the "Medyka-Sheghini" checkpoint.
The blockade of the Polish border, which began on November 6 and was planned to last until the beginning of January 2024, has already led to significant difficulties on the border with Ukraine, only one truck per hour passes through the blocked directions. Negotiations with officials, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski, will determine the farmers' next steps. If the government does not provide the necessary confirmations, a new blockade may come into effect.
