Ukraine is taking new measures to strengthen discipline and military security, announcing a quarantine for citizens who do not have military duties to wear military uniforms.
According to the new rules, citizens of Ukraine who wear military uniforms with the insignia of military formations may be fined or forced to perform community service. This measure is applied in Ukraine even in peacetime, not limited to periods of martial law.
Back in 2019, the article "Illegal wearing of military uniforms with insignia of military personnel" was added to the Code of Administrative Offenses. If you have a "pixel" on you, and also with patches belonging to one of the combat formations of the Armed Forces, it can threaten with a fine of 150-200 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens.
Today it is UAH 2,250–3,400. However, law enforcement officers can limit themselves to a warning and confiscate a uniform that a citizen, by law, has no right to wear in a public place.
In the event of a repeat offense within a year, the amount of the fine will be UAH 3,400–6,800. Administrative work for a period of 30 to 40 hours may also be applied as a disciplinary measure. The form, again, will be confiscated.
Employees of the National Police can detain a citizen walking around the city in a military uniform with decorations, without having the legal right to do so. They will draw up a protocol for further prosecution of the violator.
As a reminder, according to Ukrainian laws, military uniforms can be worn by:
military;
conscripts during military service;
reservists;
cadets;
lyceum students
If a soldier has been released to the reserve or retired altogether, then while retaining the right to wear a military uniform, he can also wear it when visiting public places.
