Land belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is becoming a site for illegal construction. The KSM-Group company, associated with the odious developer Serhiy Kopystyra, is building multi-storey residential complexes on territories that should be used for scientific needs. One of such projects is the Crystal Springs residential complex, where, as journalists discovered, even the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatoly Zagorodny, has an apartment.
Scandalous residential complex and its influential residents
The Crystal Springs residential complex is located in a picturesque part of Kyiv between the Feofaniya park complex and Khotivsky Forest. However, its construction is taking place without the necessary permits from the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Planning, which has already attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies.
Investigators suggest that the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine may be interested in changing the purpose of the land. In exchange for assistance, high-ranking officials are likely receiving apartments in new buildings.
A declaration that does not converge
An apartment with an area of 86 square meters in the Crystal Springs residential complex is registered in the state register in the name of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Anatoly Zagorodny. The approximate cost of such housing is from 3 million hryvnias. However, in his declaration he indicated another apartment - 67 square meters, which was purchased for only 17 thousand hryvnias.
In addition, one of the directors of the State Motor Transport Enterprise of the NAS, on whose land development is underway, owns an entire cottage town, and several other Academy leaders received elite apartments at reduced prices.
What does the NAS leadership say?
When journalists asked him to explain the situation, the NAS president initially avoided answering, and later stated that he would make an official inquiry into the situation. However, he never answered the question about the apartment in the Crystal Springs residential complex.
This is not the first time that academic land has been given over for development. Recently, a scandal erupted around the Hryshko National Botanical Garden, part of whose territory, despite the ban, was also given over for residential construction. And again, the spotlight is on KSM-Group.
Who and how uses the lands of science for their own interests is a question that remains open.
