Analysts are now clarifying where exactly the clashes are taking place in Klishchiivka. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, 10 attacks were repelled in the Kramatorsk direction during the day.
Russian troops continue to move forward in Chasovoy Yar in Donetsk region, approaching the villages of Sokil, Netaylove and Solovyove. The further situation in Klishchiivka is still being clarified.
In the Kramatorsk direction, it was possible to repulse 10 attacks. Russian troops unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense lines in Klishchiivka five times, as well as three times in Andriivka, as well as in the districts of Novy and Ivanivka. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the enemy lost 135 people and 50 pieces of equipment. As a result, one tank, two armored personnel carriers were destroyed, and the radio-electronic warfare station "Burell" was damaged.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in his interview published on May 20, noted that the limited Russian offensive in the north of Ukraine diverts attention from active actions in the east. He also drew attention to the situation in Chasovoy Yar, Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo districts.
According to ISW, Russian forces are likely to try to achieve significant victories in the Chasovoyarsk direction, since control of Chasovoyar will open the way for attacks on other cities held by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Russian forces likely want to exploit weak points in Ukrainian defenses before large volumes of US military aid arrive on the front lines. The General Staff of Ukraine stressed last week that Russian forces are continuing their offensive in the Pokrovsky direction, despite the stabilization in the north of the Kharkiv region.
