A simple health indicator - how to understand that you drink enough water

Water is the basis of life. It provides the work of the internal organs, supports energy, regulates body temperature, lubricates joints and even affects the mood. And although many have heard about "eight glasses of water a day", this formula is just a landmark. The real need for fluid depends on many factors: age, physical activity, diet, climate, health and medication.

How much water is needed by the body

General recommendations are advised to consume about two liters of liquid a day, including drinks and foods containing water. But the main thing is to focus on the signals of the body. Fatigue, headache or irritability can be the consequences of fluid lack.

Signs of dehydration

Lack of water affects not only the well -being, but also the work of the brain, heart and digestive system. The main signs of dehydration:

  • dry mouth;

  • headache;

  • fatigue;

  • dizziness;

  • dark urine;

  • rare urination;

  • dry or flabby skin.

Can you drink too much water

Yes. Excess water can cause hyponatremia - a dangerous condition when sodium levels in the blood are reduced to critical marks. It can cause nausea, convulsions, confusion, or even loss of consciousness. Therefore, it is important not only to drink enough, but not to exaggerate.

As the body uses water

  • Support of organs - kidneys, liver, heart function only if sufficient hydration.

  • Joint lubrication - water helps to avoid stiffness and pain when moving.

  • Temperature regulation - through sweat the body is cooled.

  • Digestion - water supports the bowel.

  • Cognitive activity - affects concentration, memory, mood.

  • Disease prevention -reduces the risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dementia.

  • Appearance - moisturized skin looks great.

How to check the level of hydration

  • Thirst - if it is frequent, you should look at the water balance.

  • Urine color -light yellow-normal, dark-a sign of dehydration.

  • Urination - every 90 minutes - well, every 6 hours - not enough.

  • Skin turgor - pinch yourself for the back of the hand: if the skin is slowly turning back, the body needs water.

How to make water more attractive

To drink water, add slices of fruit, mint, cucumber or use frozen berries instead of ice. You can also drink sparkling water or consume foods with a high moisture content - watermelons, cucumbers, celery, oranges.

Drinking water is not a fashion and a trend, but a daily basis for care. Make this habit part of life - and your body will answer you with energy, a clarity of thought and a healthy look.
