After the start of a full-scale invasion, one of the main tools of the fight against the aggressor became economic sanctions, which were aimed at limiting the Russian Federation's ability to purchase weapons. So why do well-known global brands continue to work not only in the Russian Federation, but also in occupied Crimea and the DPR?
This is reported by the editors of the 360UA NEWS
For example, the Swedish-Swiss cosmetics company Oriflame continues its work not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the so-called DPR. We will remind you that after the start of the full-scale invasion, Oriflame announced its exit from the Russian market, but in fact it only expanded its presence there. A number of European mass media wrote about it.
In particular, the journalists of the Polish Agencja Informacyjna conducted their own investigation and discovered more than two thousand partner points of sale, working production, the possibility of ordering goods online for rubles and delivery of goods by Russian state mail.
Ukrainian journalists also repeatedly wrote about the work of Oriflame in the Russian Federation and the DPR, but the company was never included in the register of war sponsors and continues to work in Ukraine. An analysis of Russian social networks, where Oriflame promotes a network of agents for the sale of brand products, shows that Oriflame representatives are active supporters of the invasion of Ukraine and support the Russian army, transferring part of the income from the sale of cosmetics to the Russian military.
According to our sources in the NAKC, the problem of the sanctions case rests on the vision of some representatives of foreign corporations, who officially declared their support for Ukraine and withdrawal from the Russian market, but in practice refuse to do so.
In particular, on March 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., a working meeting was held in the Cabinet of Ministers with the participation of foreign ambassadors on the functioning of the "International War Sponsors" register, where the Ukrainian side raised the issue of stopping the work of American and European corporations in the Russian Federation.
According to our source, at this stage the Cabinet of Ministers received a refusal from diplomats to actually support the sanctions case. The majority of them declared that they are not ready to really limit business operations in the Russian Federation, but their companies are ready to continue to publicly declare "exiting the Russian market, condemning armed aggression and supporting Ukraine."
As we can see on the example of the Oriflame brand, such "declarations" do not prevent companies from working in the Russian Federation and helping the aggressor's army.
