At the height of the war in Ukraine, when many citizens are facing economic difficulties, Roman Maselko, a member of the Supreme Council of Justice, and his relatives found themselves at the center of a scandal related to the purchase of real estate with funds of unknown origin. This was reported by the publication "Law and Business".
According to the investigation, pensioner Halyna Bozhenko, who turns out to be the aunt of Roman Maselka, lent his wife almost 15 thousand US dollars. These funds were used to purchase a two-room apartment in Kyiv worth almost 1.6 million hryvnias. The fact of a loan from a pensioner caused a lot of doubts and suspicions among journalists and the public.
At the same time, it follows from the declaration that Maselka's wife kept her dollar deposit (almost 11.8 thousand dollars) during the purchase of the apartment, and the remaining official funds of the family would not be enough to buy the apartment, even taking into account the money from the aunt.
The journalists also found out that the aunt, having a pension of about 15,000 hryvnias, already during the war acquired two premises with an area of 14.7 and 11.9 m2 and two apartments in one day with an area of 47.2 m2 and 100.1 m2 in the residential complex "Eco-home" in Lviv. According to experts, the total value of such real estate exceeds 150 thousand dollars.
According to Maselka's explanation, the aunt received an inheritance from her grandfather. Indeed, the 85-year-old grandfather had 27 accounts in 8 banks worth almost 1.55 million hryvnias. And all this money passed to the daughter as an inheritance. Although, as the media checked, he could not officially earn such an amount in the last 20 years of his life.
As previously reported by "ZiB", People's Deputies Maksym Buzhanskyi and Kyrylo Nesterenko appealed to the VRP and NAKC with a request to check the dubious facts of the declaration of a member of the VRP.
