In Ukraine, there is an increase in Russia's use of drones, including new types of drones. This was reported by Colonel Yuriy Ignat, acting head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in a comment for the UP publication.
Ignat noted that Russian drones, in particular drones of an unknown type, are often affected by Ukrainian electronic warfare (EW) equipment, causing many of them to fall to the ground without harm.
"Locationally lost" drones
The Air Force term "lost to location" refers to a situation where a target that is being escorted by radio engineering troops disappears from radar. This can happen as a result of running out of fuel or under the influence of Ukrainian EW means.
According to the military, on the night of October 5, air defense forces shot down three drones, while another ten were "locationally lost" in the south and north of Ukraine. It is noted that it is possible that these were drones of a different type, and their identification will be carried out on the ground by specialists.
Increasing use of cheap drones
In addition, Ignat reported on the growth of Russia's use of cheap drones, in particular the Gerber model. These drones are produced in three variants: for electronic reconnaissance, as kamikaze drones or as false targets. According to Defense Express, Gerber drones are made of a foam body and at a low technological level, which leads to frequent cases of their independent failure.
