The body of the dead Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschyna, who was in Russian captivity, has not yet been handed over to her family. As People's Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn reported during the briefing, Russia is dragging out this process, leaving the journalist's family in limbo and not providing them with any official confirmation of her death.
"The Russian Federation is delaying the transfer of Victoria's body to Ukraine," said Yurchyshyn. "We cannot hold a funeral or get specific information." According to him, the absence of the body makes it impossible to say goodbye to her and hold a decent burial.
The 27-year-old journalist covered the events of the Russian-Ukrainian war, in particular the events around Mariupol. She actively wrote about the full-scale aggression of Russia, revealing the truth about the siege of Ukrainian cities. In the summer of last year, she went to the occupied territory in the east of Ukraine, after which the connection with her was cut off.
In April of this year, the family received an official letter from the Russian government, which mentioned her detention. Later, in October, the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that the journalist had died during the staging from Taganrog to Moscow.
Representatives of Ukrainian intelligence said that they tried to free Roschyna from captivity, having certain preliminary agreements in this regard. However, all efforts turned out to be in vain, and the journalist's family still does not have the opportunity to bury her.
