American columnist Ishaan Tharoor, in his analysis for The Washington Post, warns that next year, Russia may achieve significant success in Ukraine if the fighting conditions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine remain as difficult as they are today. According to Tharoor, Ukrainian forces are currently facing many challenges, including resource shortages, high levels of attrition, and ongoing challenges due to continuous Russian attacks.
"By next year, the grim reality of the conflict may lead to a scenario in which Russia largely gets its way. Kyiv's forces are desperately trying to hold the line in the east of the country, but are losing ground in some areas. Visions of absolute victory fade. Support for the West is also weakening," he explains.
According to Tharoor, "the prospect of Ukraine agreeing to a compromise with Russia - ceding territory in exchange for some Western security guarantees - is becoming more and more realistic."
"This will lead to an unhappy peace that will torment European politics for years. Trump appears to favor such a deal. His advisers openly talk about the need to prioritize US strategic assets against China," the observer writes.
