Russia stopped the transit of gas through the territory of Ukraine to Austria, which caused another round of energy tension in Europe. This decision caused a sharp reaction from the Ukrainian side, which accused the Kremlin of using energy resources as a tool of blackmail.
"Having cut off gas to Austria, Russia is again using energy as a weapon. However, the Austrian government will undoubtedly ensure energy security and reject blackmail. The era of Europe relying on Russian gas is over. It's time to completely cut Russian energy profits - and the financing of the war," wrote the head of the Foreign Ministry Andriy Sybiga in X.
His statement appeared after the announcement that the Russian "Gazprom" will stop the transit of gas through Ukraine to Austria from November 16.
This followed the decision of the Austrian company OMV to credit the 230 million euros received in the arbitration against Gazprom from the accounts under the contract with Gazprom. OMV then warned of a "possible stoppage of gas supplies" from Russia.
