Minister of Ecology Svitlana Grynchuk reported that the movement of polluted water from the Desna and Seim rivers in the direction of Kyiv has slowed down significantly, and in some places even stopped. This is positive news, but the threat to water intakes and the ecosystem still remains.
"We observe that the polluted spot is no longer so saturated. We hope that if the contaminated water reaches the water intakes, in particular in the Kyiv region, then the water treatment plants will be able to cope with this problem," Grynchuk said.
Previously, it was predicted that polluted water from Desna would reach Kyiv on September 10.
The eco-inspection also reports that there is no threat to water intakes. Currently, the water in Desna is enriched with oxygen using special installations.
In the Seimas, the water condition is starting to improve, no new cases of fish deaths have been detected. Single cases of plague of fish have been recorded in Desna. In general, during the liquidation of the emergency situation, about 26 tons of dead fish were collected in both rivers.
